10 Reasons to Have a Garden
1. It’s a great way to teach (or learn) patience.
2. It’s a natural lesson in “hard work brings good rewards”.
3. It makes getting fresh veggies quite a bit cheaper in the summer.
4. One tomato plant can grow a LOT of tomatoes!
5. All those extra tomatoes make great gifts for neighbors and friends (unless they too are overwhelmed with tomatoes)!
6. Digging in the garden makes the kids TIRED . . . they nap longer.
7. We haven’t tried it yet, but we hear weeding is an effective method of discipline.
8. Gardening burns calories!
9. The great sense of accomplishment one gets from growing all that stuff!
10. Not much can beat the taste of a home-grown tomato!
By the way, it’s not too late to start your garden now!
Having a garden works for me! To see Works For Me Wednesday, visit Rocks in My Dryer!

Amen, Sister!!!
I’m planning on putting my tomatoes in next weekend. You are right–there’s nothing like a home grown tomato!
Oh, but please, please, please don’t use weeding as discipline. You don’t want your kids to associate the garden with something negative, do you? (Discipline is necessary, but it’s a rare kid who’d think it was a ‘good thing,’ LOL!)
The calorie-burning part…now, that’s my favorite, LOL!
Are you sure it’s not too late? I’m such a rookie at this domestic stuff.
I’m planning on growing some things soon, too. I can’t wait! A friend of mine is giving me a tomato plant to start. I’m so excited!
i’m actually planning to start this weekend! wish me luck — i think i’ll need it
mom2fur – I guess that is true, hadn’t thought about it in that sense! Do you think I could use it as a reward??? teehee!
Anna – Especially there, it is not too late, though at this point in the season, you’ll want to start with plants (not seeds). You can totally do it & get your little man to help!
All of the rest of you – you go girls!
