This weekend we did a bunch of this:
So we could see a bunch of these:
So cool!
It’s apparently a slow year, so we only saw 30 bald eagles – was enough for us! We got to see young eagles, adult eagles, and eagle nests. We saw eagles soaring, sitting in trees, taking off, sitting on ice, eating – all sorts of things. Several times the eagles were very close, as you can see in the pictures. Adults and kids were all captivated . . . except for the four year old, who would have rather been playing basketball or running amok, as usual.

Where did you go to see these? Living in southcentral Alaska, it’s a strange occurrence to go somewhere and NOT see any eagles, but all my friends in the lower 48 think that’s amazing. Many would love the chance to see these majestic birds like this! Great pictures!
There are several places in the lower 48 where eagles winter, and it is winter here (though I’m guessing that seems a bit wimpy coming from up there!). We happen to live within a day-trip drive of one of them.
Look at the map on the right hand side here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bald_eagles
If your friends are near any of these areas, they probably have programs at their state parks and/or wild life/bird refuges in the area. The information was out there when I looked; I just googled “bald eagle watching” and the name of the state we live in. And once I looked for it, I found information everywhere!
