I started this blog at the beginning of our adoption, to chronicle the ups and downs on our journey to two of our family members. I chose the title “Learning Patience,” as we prayed for those two sweet faces on our refrigerator door . . . yet we could only dream of them. Knowing them had to wait, for the paperwork to be done and the fingerprints to be cleared and the right signatures to be put in all the right places. Our adoption took 42 weeks from beginning to end; that is crazy short in adoption terms, yet it seemed an eternity when we were in the midst of it all.
It has been almost three years since we traveled to Ethiopia, and I’m still here blogging . . . and learning patience. I write about about faith, motherhood, marriage, homeschooling, what it takes to run a household, and whatever else I find to type. I keep trying to quit this blog, but it seems there’s always just one more thing I want to record or share.
About Me: wife of one, mom of four, homeschool teacher, lover of Jesus, and friend of chocolate
Handsome: My wonderful husband who is good at everything he tries
Bubba: Older daughter, known for her infectious smile and ability to make anything a competition
Gus: Younger Daughter, curly girlie, full of giggles, and lover of all thing spicy
Little Man: Our oldest son who is a budding engineer at the ripe old age of seven
Dimples: The cute one, with the dimples – he’s four and proud of it!

Hi Jen! I have been lurking around your blog for a few weeks now. Just haven’t been able to break the ice. . .
[...] 12, 2008 I found this quiz on Learning Patience and decided it would be a nice distraction as I ate my lunch (as usual, at my desk instead of any [...]
Jen,
I linked to your site from the Christian Ethiopian Adoption Webboard blog to try to see additional pictures & stuff of your family and while I was here, I found your 100 list. I got to the bottom & stated laughing when I read # 98. I have gotten a stern “it’s time for dinner” from my husband several times when our 5 year old has me log into Webkinz (my own account) so that I could make some money to buy stuff & send them to him. Just thought you should know you are not the only adult that enjoys playing Webkinz. I am a little sad that my account expires this month. : )

Too funny about the Kinzcash! Thanks for stopping back in at bloginmyeye. I’m feeling a little slumpy over there, but what else is new!
reading adoption blogs and up to May 14, 2007 – Have to drag myself away to feed my babies w ho’ve been snacking and should already be in bed… I’ll try to call – I have tons of questions
Hi! I’m a stranger to you, but just found your blog. I also live in OR and noticed you used Dove for your adoption. We are interested in them as well and was wondering how your process went, if you liked the agency, and if you would use them again. If it’s not too much trouble, you can email me at sgerards@hotmail.com.
Thanks!
hello – I came across your blog thru another one that I follow. I was prepared to move along but saw your “adoption tab” and started to read a few of your blogs.
my husband is in his last year of med school (thank God!) and we have two girls, ages 5 & 3. we’ve been wanting to adopt for a few years now but since we have no “income” to show except for growing loans, we are still in “research” phase. sigh. I saw that your husband was a resident when you started the process? that caught my eye as well as the fact that we want to adopt a sibling group of two boys hopefully.
anyway, I know this is a long comment. would you mind sending me your email? I’d love to pick our brain and get your feedback!
may God bless you and your family.

I absolutely love your blog. It is so great! I plan to adopt a child once I am married and able to support him/her with the best life possible. Your blog is inspiring!
