WoHoo! I’ve been away from WFMW for a while, and I’m so glad to be back! I’m so glad to have the presence of mind to get a bit of blogging done, and I’m so excited to dig through all of the tips to figure out what on earth I need to change in my life!
My tip this week is to coordinate all your children’s winter gear. Now, I know what you are thinking; you are thinking, “Lady, are you crazy? I’m doing well to get dressed in the morning much less coordinate my children’s winter wear!” But let me explain.
Pick a two or three colors and buy all of your winter gear in those colors. We use red, navy blue, and black; it suits boys and girls. You could pick pink and purple, if you had all girls. Or you could do a monochromatic thing and buy all blue stuff. I know it sounds a bit nutty, but this is what I have found: if all of your stuff coordinates, you accomplish a couple things:
1. All of your children will have stuff that matches all the time. So my 4yo son can wear the same hat and mittens that he had last year (because they still fit), and they match his new coat for this year (because his arms grew too long for last year’s coat, even though I told them not to). The kids can swap hats, mittens, scarves, snow pants whenever they need to.
2. This method also makes for great pictures – everyone matches as they run and play in the snow. It is very picturesque!
3. Finally, I know which kids are mine – or at least I have a better clue when one of them gets lost at REI (not that that would ever happen!). I just have to look for the kid in the red and blue coat.
Here’s two of my kiddos in their red and blue!
And as a bonus, I’ll share with you that I will never ever again buy a winter coat any place other than Land’s End. Their coats are pricey, but they are amazing. They zip easier than other coats, they stand up to wear and tear and wash after wash (and look like new), they are trim fitting, so they fit better in car and booster seats, they are well designed to keep out the cold and snow that needs to be kept out, and the kids stay warm in them! We love, love, love their squall jackets and Snow Flurry boots. Watch for sales and free shipping, and be sure to check out the overstocks section – it rocks! (Just don’t buy what I need, ok?)
