So Dimples is about to turn four! 4!
I asked him what kind of party he wanted. He very matter-of-factly told me, “Cow.”
And when I’ve asked ever since, he says, “Cow,” with a look and tone that says, “Duh, Mom, I’ve told you this about a billion times. When are you going to get it through your head that I want a cow party!”
So I’ll either be making a big hill in my batter bowl, icing it green and placing plastic cows on top or making a white cake with black spots then piping some green “grass” around the edge. (Think Gateway box but smaller and edible.)
My sister had the idea of having the kids lasso a chair or box or something dressed as a cow.
I plan to dress in last year’s Halloween costume (Jessie from Toy Story 2, a cowgirl), and Bubba can dress in her 2009 costume and also be a cow girl.
I had the silly idea of making cow pies (a mixture of chocolate, marshmallows and other stuff) to take home as goodies…but that’s a little sick, so help me, people, help me!
What can I do to keep the kids entertained at the cow party?
And what cute thing can I send home with them? (I definitely prefer to do one larger favor as opposed to a bunch of little junk that will just get thrown away, but hear me now: I’m not above junk, if it goes with the theme!)
Any ideas for other appetizers?
You should check the $1 store for cheap cowboy hats (to use in place of party hats)
Would suggest the cowboy hats as above, bandanas for all (very inexpensive at oriental trading company). lI ike the roping the chair idea. how about pin the tail on the cow? cow pie bingo (ok a little sick!) oriental trading company had cute favor boxes for a horse party my daughter had years ago – they were really cute, so not sure if they would have little cow stuffed animals instead of horses??
you could also have the kids help make homemade ice cream maybe? (going with the milk theme)
also maybe “cow pin” bowling – I’ve seen some cute make your own bowling pins you could cover in white/black paper and have the kids roll a soccer ball (black/white)??? corny?
sounds like fun!
Thanks for your ideas! Cowpin bowling – how cute would that be…and tame enough for indoors! jen http://www.learningpatience.wordpress.com
The cowboy hats are great as party hats and favors all in one. Mem had a horse party and I gave out bandanas and cowboy hats. You can get cheap red/white checked table clothes to use for all kinds of decorations. Tie raffia on a milk bottle and serve from it or decorate with it. You can rope milk jugs made into cows. I had a friend do that for a western unit. Give them rope to tie into knots. Bowling down milk bottles (they make plastic ones). Haystacks for food? Plastic farm animals as favors. They had them in the dollar bin at Target before Christmas. Paint with “mud” pudding or dip animal crackers in it for food. Hmmmm. That’s all I have for now, but you should find tons of stuff on line – all teaching sites have a farm theme.
Thanks for the ideas – now I’m feeling (more) inspired! Am going out to look for bandanas and/or hats tomorrow. I had planned to do a little roping thing, but a milk jug cow will be easier to make than what I was picturing. Yay! jen http://www.learningpatience.wordpress.com
