I know, I know…I hate to bring it up, ’cause really swim season doesn’t so much work for me…well it works to wear out my children (which oh!, so does work for me), but not so much my thighs…but hopefully this tip will make up for the early mention of swimsuit season.
A couple years ago about this time of year I was at a certain store with a round logo. I was trying on summer apparel – not swimsuits, oh! NOT swimsuits, but rather something with more coverage, though I don’t remember what it was…but it wasn’t a horrible trip, so I couldn’t have been trying on swimsuits. Anyway, I found a really cute little dress. It is 100% not natural fibers, a faux-wrap style dress, and sleeveless. I don’t know exactly why, but I had an epiphany right there in the middle of the big box store! That dress would make the perfect swim cover-up!
I tried that little number on; then I bought it. And I get more compliments on that dress that anything else in my summer wardrobe! Because it’s polyester, it dries really quickly. Its simple faux-wrap style makes it easy to slip on and off, and it looks fine over a swimsuit. It was less than $20, I think. And my favorite part is that if I realize I need to run into the grocery store on the way home from the pool, I am actually wearing something that is grocery store appropriate. So forget all of the frumpy terry cloth things you’ll find in the women’s department store. Check out the summer dress selection; find something simple and fun.
A summer dress over my swimsuit – works for me!

I do that too because I want something longer than your standard cover up… hence the name ‘cover up’!
This was a great tip. Thanks!
Great Tip! I have two favorite summer dresses that I use as swim cover-ups. Like you said, I’m never afraid to stop at the grocery store with a dress over my suit.
That is so funny. I was shopping for maternity clothes a couple weeks ago and couldn’t find anything I liked. Then I found a swimsuit cover-up that was like a tunic with an empire waist. Perfect! So you use a dress as a cover-up, and I use a cover-up as a dress. Roffles!
Great tip! I’m not looking forward to bathing suit shopping!! I’ll try looking for a dress. Good idea!
Perfect!! There’s nothing like going through the drive through on the way home from swimming sitting on a towel with a tee shirt over my swimsuit. This would be perfect. Thanks.
