So I bribed the kids. I had a few little gifts for them (that I have had for a while and just wanted to get out of the secret hiding spot, aka my closet), and I wanted them to finish their Valentine’s and boxes before the night-before-the-Valentine’s party. I hate that last minute scramble that always turns fun projects into fussy whining sessions – and that’s not to speak of the kids! So I used my super-mom powers and told them all that if they got their stuff done, I would give them a gift. It totally worked; it’s the night before the shin-dig, and we’ve been ready for days! WooHoo! I’m thinking I should try bribery more often!
Anyway, here are a few little pics of their creative genius. . . also known as inspiration from Family Fun magazine and Oriental Trading Company clearance!
I was cracking up as we made these mice and my children started humming tunes from The Nutcracker – from the battle with the mouse king and his mouse soldier friends.
I found these guys at OTC on clearance and thought they would be cute for one of my kids to make for Valentine’s Day. Instead of adding little ribbon loops to make hangers, we inserted little slips of paper that said, “Happy Valentine’s Day! Gus” They were fun, but I found another easier way to do them here (a blog I just started visiting not too long ago) who got them here.
Here’s a little close up of the critters.
Then there’s this guy, who lost his nose! Oops! He must have sneezed a little too hard!
The thing that really cracks me up about that picture (and I laugh every time I see it!) is the guy to his right, who seems to be saying, “Oh! No!”
And this fearsome creation was made by my sweet eight year old girl (she saw a similar one in Family Fun magazine)! She made her own Valentines too – just doilies with eyes and glitter glue smiles. Each has a sticker on the back with her name and a little message on it.
Little man also made Valentines for the party, but they are done and in a bag all ready to go. I’m not about to touch them, lest I cause disaster!
He made a personalized version of these!
The kids also made Valentine’s for me and Daddy, but “Shhh!” I don’t know a thing!
This weekend we’ll hopefully be making white and red candy lollipops. I bought the candy for Christmas, and we never got around to making the candies I planned, so tonight when I saw a heart shaped mold on sale, I snatched it right up, brought home, and considered it a taste of redemption!
Are you making anything fun for Valentine’s Day? Hope your Valentine’s celebrations are filled with love!
So cute and creative. I clicked over to the blog you linked – such a good post. Did you see her last line, “rodent you be ours?” Hahaha.
Our Valentine’s Day party was cancelled due to all this snow we’ve gotten this week. I’ll have to email you a picture of Max’s Valentine idea. We stole it from a blog, too, of course 🙂
